Accessing Your Email Via Your Phone
The Tutorial
|
To set up a phone to receive email, the phone must first be email capable. The account you are trying to set up must be either a POP3 account or a Microsoft Exchange account. POP3 is the language that's used to download your email to your mail program. If you use Microsoft Exchange, then your account is a Microsoft Exchange account. If you already use something like Outlook or Thunderbird, then your email is perfect for setting up with your phone, providing that your phone is capable of email.
You will need the email account settings, such as the POP3 server, SMTP server, and what port the emails come in and go out on. These should be provided to you in the settings section of your email program. You will also need to know your username and password. Once your phone is set up, it will begin downloading your emails just like a client program such as Outlook or Thunderbird.
To make this even easier, some online webmail accounts such as Gmail actually have a walkthrough on how to use their email with an email client. The same settings they provide for Outlook or Thunderbird will also work with your phone.
